Acrylic Painting on Canvas Team Bonding Art Jamming Singapore Visual Arts Centre

From Abroad…To Singapore 2025 is Simon Carr’s follow-up photographic exhibition to his solo exhibition at the Alliance Francaise de Singapour in 2010. The participants involved in the exhibition came from different parts of the world to make their living in Singapore. Some of them were well known in their field, such as Julian Davidson a renowned historian and writer; but some were struggling artists, who despite their talent, discussed the day-to-day struggle to make ends meet.
Through the years, the photographer kept in contact with the participants and continued to follow their adventures in and out of Singapore – as some of the subjects have grown into young adults; others have grown old. Now, fifteen years on, their stories have properly matured as a significant time capsule.
With nearly all of the photographs in this series shot on either 35mm or 120mm film, the photography harks back to times past, before the proliferation of digital cameras. This exhibition will also include interviews with the subjects about their art work, their reflection on the past and aspirations for the future.
Simon Carr is an award-winning photographer who has had solo and joint exhibitions in venues including: The Royal Scottish Academy(UK), Institut Francais d’Ecosse (UK), Tsukuba Museum of Art (Japan) and Alliance Francaise de Singapour (Singapore).

In the Batik Introduction Handkerchief Painting workshop, participants will learn the traditional art of batik, a wax-resist dyeing technique originating from Indonesia. The workshop begins with a brief history and overview of batik, highlighting its cultural significance and various techniques. Participants will then observe a demonstration of applying wax with tjanting tools and dyeing the fabric. Following the demonstration, each participant will design and create their own batik handkerchief, applying wax to create patterns and then dyeing their fabric. The workshop concludes with a group discussion, allowing participants to share their creations and reflect on their learning experience.
